STEP 1: Close the drain in the sink.

STEP 2: Soak the ring in a sink filled with hot water.

STEP 3: Fill a small dish - such as a contact lens dish - with window cleaner.

STEP 4: Transfer the ring from the hot water to the dish containing the window cleaner.

STEP 5: Let the ring soak for at least 10 minutes.

STEP 6: Dip an old toothbrush in window cleaner and scrub ring thoroughly for several minutes.

STEP 7: Refill the sink with hot water and soak the ring for a few minutes longer.

STEP 8: Continue scrubbing with the toothbrush, now under a flow of hot water.

STEP 9: Rinse well under hot water.

STEP 10: Repeat, if necessary, until you achieve a brilliant shine.

STEP 1: Mix a squeeze of mild dish detergent with warm water in a bowl.

STEP 2: Put the gold item into the soap mixture and let sit for a few minutes.

STEP 3: Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the jewelry.

STEP 4: Remove item from soapy water, rinse it and dry thoroughly with a soft polishing .
